I received this product complimentary from Pure & Essential Minerals with help from Brandbacker in exchange for a review. I’ve been DYING to try out a new dead sea mud mask ever since I tried one at one of those beauty parties out of someone’s home. It was everything I ever dreamed a spa experience should be, so I was over the moon when I was contacted to do this review.

My Review

I just want to preface this review by saying that pregnancy messed my skin up! I used to have dry skin with occasional minor pimples. Now I have oily, oily skin with blackheads and whiteheads popping up daily. I’m a mess. So I’ll try anything at this point!

I have tried a dead sea mud mask before (not from this company), so I know that it’s supposed to tingle and it doesn’t smell the best. I mean, it’s mud filled with minerals. So it’s not going to smell like flowers, I get that.

Pure Dead Sea Mud MaskI like to do my masks when I get out of the shower. I take hot showers so that the steam can really open up my pores, then I slap that product right on there while the bathroom’s still steamy to give it the best chance. That’s what I did the first time I tried this mask out.

The first thing I noticed is that it smelled bad. Like, worse than any other one I’ve tried. It almost made me gag. I guess that’s the sulfur? Then, it started to burn. I expected this so I wasn’t worried. And honestly, I love a product that can give me a good burn. That’s how you know it’s working amiright?

I left it on until I couldn’t handle the burn anymore, and it was mostly dry. I scrubbed it off and went to bed. My skin was actually dry for about 24 hours before the oil started to come back.

I also love it after I do a mask, because all these really easy to pop pimples come up, and then go away so quick. I feel like I’m cheating the system!

The second time I tried it, I left it on until it was completely dry. The effects were pretty much the same as the first time, so maybe I don’t need to waste that extra ten minutes?

The third – and most recent – time I applied this mask, I decided to get adventurous and added some essential oils in with a portion of it (just in case it didn’t work out, I didn’t want to spoil the whole jar!). The ingredients already list Eucalyptus oil and Sunflower oil, so I added a few drops from my favorite blend: Eucalyptus/Spearmint with Sunflower carrier oil. Guess what?? The smell improved by about a million! And to top it off, I feel more energized, yet calm thanks to my EO blend.

A few small tips:

1. I noticed that there was a bit of separation once I started diving into the jar to mix in the EO blend. When you use it for the first time, stick your finger all the way to the bottom and give it a good stir!

2. Don’t be afraid of the burn. My eyes literally water. It’s intense. And worth it!

3. Don’t use it right before an event or a date, or really anytime someone else is going to be close to your face. They may be able to smell a hint of the sulfur. If you don’t want to explain, make sure you do the treatment in advance! Or, blend in some essential oils to make that smell disappear!!

  • Likes: The burn, baby! And the way I can tell it’s detoxing my skin. I also love the simplicity of the ingredient list. There’s not one ingredient that I don’t recognize.
  • Dislikes: The smell. I’m a huge smell person. I’ve tested some other products that use essential oils to help ease the sulfur smell a bit and I wish this one did that as well.
  • Would I Purchase? For the price, I’d definitely purchase this product!
