We’re Expecting!

I have been waiting for this moment for five weeks now! SC and I are pregnant! We are expecting our first child in September. Knowing my family history and the odds of first pregnancies, I’ll probably go over into October. Since my birthday is October 4, there’s a good chance I’ll be in the hospital on my birthday!

I swear I knew within days of conceiving, but I thought my mind was playing tricks on me. We took SC’s mom out for her birthday on Saturday, January 11 and she kept asking me if I was sure I wasn’t pregnant because I was glowing. I kept assuring her that I was trying out some new makeup routines (I was!) and that was why I looked different. On Monday, January 13 I felt nauseous around noon time. And then for every single day after that, I felt sick at the same time. It was like clockwork. So by midweek, I took a pregnancy test. It came out negative.

I said something about feeling sick to SC, but didn’t tell him that I was suspecting anything. After all, who wants to be the crazy girl that’s wishing so bad she had a baby and she actually makes up pregnancy symptoms?! We went to Supercross that weekend with some friends of our who are also expecting and on the drive I felt nauseous. The next Monday, I went to Walgreens and stocked up on tests because I was determined to find out for sure.

The first test I took came up with an extremely faint second line. I got nervous. And then I did a whole bunch of research which told me that there were blue and pink HPTs and one is more reliable and I had bought the less reliable one so I went BACK to Walgreens to get the other one. I took one of those and got a little clearer line. Then, I took one first thing in the morning on Tuesday with a fairly clear line. I was satisfied. So I waited ALL DAY and then SC decided that he was going to go play around after work instead of coming straight home so I had to wait even longer to tell him!

He finally got home and I told him that I have something to talk to him about. He immediately got worried, as anyone would! Then I told him he should sit down on the bed and I think that gave it away. I walked into the bathroom and he just let out this, “Oh, sh*t.”

I brought out the tests (all three) and asked him what he thought. He said, “Yeah, I see it.” And I think he was in shock for a week after that. We went to my doctor on Friday and they confirmed it with another urine test. We had family already coming over on Saturday evening, so we announced to all the local family members then and spent the rest of the night and most of Sunday calling all of our out of town family members.

According to our timeline, we found out in week four. The doctor confirmed that we were 4 weeks 5 days when we saw her on Friday, January 17. That means that I am 8 weeks pregnant as of yesterday! Now that the word is out, I can finally post everything I’m thinking here and on twitter to my little heart’s content. It was so hard keeping this secret!!
